How did this initiative come about?
In 2020, with the support of Ontario Creates and the Casting Directors Society of Canada, ACTRA Toronto launched the Black Performers Showcase to promote the diversity and range of professional performers working in Ontario. This is one of the many tools and initiatives ACTRA Toronto has launched to support its diverse membership and help productions find and connect with talent. Following the success of the first Showcase, the second edition launched in 2024 and focuses on performers from pan-Asian communities.
How are the participants of the Showcase chosen?
The Casting Directors Society of Canada (CDC) is the only organization in Canada to represent professional casting directors working in every medium where professional actors are required; film, television, commercials, theatre, industrials, even trade shows. Part of the CDC’s support for the Showcase includes screening and selection of the Showcase participants from the hundreds of submissions we receive.
How can I submit myself to be included in a Showcase?
Submissions for the Asian Performers Showcase have closed, but ACTRA Toronto members in good standing should keep an eye on emails for the next opportunity to submit yourself for consideration. In the meantime, register or update your profile on diversity.actraonline.ca. To be notified when the next Showcase is announced, sign up here.
How can I stay informed about the next Showcase?
If you are a member of the film and television industry and would like to be notified about the next Showcase, please sign up here. ACTRA Toronto members will also be notified* by e-blast.
* Please note, you will not receive email notifications if you have opted out of ACTRA Toronto emails.
